About the Juniors |
|
|
|
Some of the neatest people in Kansas
City could be considered river rats. They diligently trek to the Kansas River after
school and on weekends, they trudge up and down the Levee with rowing shells, oars,
and water bottles. They know where to look for the Blue Heron that lives up river;
they know the names of all the bridges. They are high school students from across
the metro area. They are boys and girls who’ve participated in other sports or who
are as new to sport as they are to the river. They know that river mud doesn’t come
out of a white t-shirt and that sacrificing your good sneakers to help adjust the
dock is a small price to pay for a long row with your best friends.

|
• KCRC’s Juniors train for and compete in regattas all over the Midwest and occasionally
travel to exotic places such as Atlanta and Philadelphia.
• Athletes from our program have won scholarships to Division I rowing programs
at major universities.
• Our Crews have raced successfully at major regattas such as The Royal Canadian
Henley and US Nationals.
• Former KCRC Juniors have gone on to coach their own crews at schools and clubs
across the US.
• KCRC rowers have been chosen to attend US Rowing development camps and been considered
for spots on the US Junior National Team.
• Our Juniors value honestly earned blisters as much as hard won medals.
• KCRC athletes make friends they’ll keep for a lifetime.

|
Philosophy |
|
|
KCRC's coaches strive to prepare their athletes not only to tackle the
2000 meter sprint course or the long Fall Head race but also the challenges of growing
up in a world that expects so much from them. Character, responsibility, teamwork,
honesty, reliability, courage, compassion and humility are not only the ingredients
of a good rower and a fast crew but of a happy, successful person. Family
|
 |
|
KCRC Juniors is truly a family effort |
|
|
• Parents and grandparents travel with us, driving the vans or helping with the
boat trailer
• Parents and Juniors serve as KCRC Board members and help with the day to day running
of the club
• Siblings and friends train and race together
• Dads cook hot dogs to feed the hungry competitors and Moms bake a seemingly endless
supply of brownies
